It's been a few months since NYX launched at Adore, and boy, have my inner-child and I been having FUN.
A baby-blue eyeshadow look last month, a full-glam beat before that and party-ready peepers over the holidays–each swipe, slather and swatch has served as a reminder not to take life too seriously.
The L.A. beauty brand is the fun and fruity friend we all need. The one who encourages us to embrace colour and believes eyeliner knows no bounds and lips almost always look better when coated in gloss.
If you’ve been following along at home, you may remember my declaring I’m back in my lip gloss era. Well, I have to hand it to NYX for re-introducing me to the plumped-up possibilities of today’s formulas.
Four products in particular come to mind… Some old, some new, but the one thing they all have in common? A price tag under $25.
Now that’s something I think we can all get behind!

1. NYX Professional Makeup Duck Plump Lip Gloss.

Fast facts:
- Plumping effect from ginger root and chilli extract ingredients.
- Available in tinted and transparent shades.
- High colour payoff and rich pigmentation.
- Vegan and cruelty-free formula.
- Long-lasting, glossy finish.
My NYX Professional Duck Plump Lip Gloss review:
If you’re a thinned-lip queen like me and don’t mind a little spice, then you’ll love the NYX Duck Plump Lip Gloss.
This lip gloss brings the heat, infused with ginger root and chilli extract that give lips a tingly sensation for a fuller, plumped pout.
Like most of the other NYX glosses featured here, Duck Plump has a generous applicator that feels comfortable on the lips and coats them in just a couple of swipes.
It’s also super pigmented with a high-shine finish, perfect for day or nighttime wear, depending on your shade of choice.
My go-to is Nude Swings, a peachy neutral that looks just as lovely on its own as it does paired with a brown lip liner.
Be warned though, the spice is not for everyone – I like to think I can handle a moderate amount of heat, but this gloss certainly tested my limits.
2. NYX Professional Makeup Fat Oil Lip Drip.

Fast facts:
- Vegan and cruelty-free formula.
- Promises to provide intense hydration for up to 12 hours.
- Non-sticky, comfortable texture that doesn't feel heavy or tacky on the lips.
- Delivers a high-shine, glossy finish that adds dimension and shine to the lips.
- Available in a variety of shades ranging from nudes to bold reds that can be worn alone or layered under a lipstick or liner.
My NYX Professional Fat Oil Lip Drip review:
If you’re looking for an affordable lip oil that’s hydrating but still has decent pigment, this is it.
Typically I’ve found lip oils excel in one of these departments, but not always both – the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip is the exception.
It’s infused with cloudberry oil, raspberry oil and squalane to moisturise the lips without leaving them sticky, heavy or greasy (tick, tick, tick!).
I also love the gloss’ big doe-foot applicator and subtle sugary scent, both make each application that much more fun and nostalgic.
My shade of choice is Missed Call, which at first looked a bit brighter and bolder than I’d hoped, but applies as the perfect your-lips-but-better pink, with a hint of warmth ideal for ‘no-makeup’ makeup days.
3. NYX Professional Makeup Fat Oil Slick Click.

Fast facts:
- Ultra-glossy, oil-based texture.
- Promises 12-hour hydration and a high-shine finish.
- Comes in a variety of shades, ranging from clear to tinted hues.
- Delivers a sheer to medium coverage for a juicy, plumped appearance.
- Non-sticky and lightweight, ensuring comfortable wear throughout the day.
My NYX Professional Fat Oil Slick Click review:
Remember those mechanical pencils from school you used to buy the lead refills for and click the end till it came out? Do they still exist? Man, they were fun.
Anyway, this lip gloss reminds me of them.
Its click-up functionality makes every application joyful and is an ASMR-lover’s dream.
My only concern is how exactly it rewinds, if at all… so perhaps don’t go too ham on the clicking.
Its formula is super moisturising too! Which surprised me, considering it comes in compact, pen-style packaging.
However, in saying that, it is infused with avocado, cloudberry and raspberry oils for “12-hour hydration”, just like the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip.
I managed to get my hands on two shades of the NYX Slick Click: No Filter Needed, a shimmery pearly nude, and DM Me, a sugary, pale pink hue.
The writer in me can’t help but appreciate the playful product names too!
Out of the two lip glosses, I’ve been reaching for No Filter Needed more. It’s a more wearable, everyday, trans-seasonal shade, but DM Me is the perfect doll-like pink for when the weather warms up.
4. NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss.

Fast facts:
- Medium to full coverage with a glossy finish.
- Features a doe-foot applicator for even application.
- Comfortable wear that doesn’t feel heavy or greasy.
- Enriched with nourishing ingredients to keep lips moisturised and soft.
- Can be worn alone or layered over lipstick or a liner for added dimension.
- Available in a variety of nude and neutral shades, perfect for everyday wear.
My NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss review:
Fun fact: this was one of the first NYX products I ever bought almost 10 years ago.
However, somewhere, somehow over time I completely forgot about it. So it was a bit of a full-circle moment when ‘Tiramisu’ landed on my desk recently.
Where some products undergo upgrade after upgrade over such a long period (often to the dismay of its loyal fanbase), I’m pleased to report the NYX Butter Gloss is just as good as I remember.
It has a hydrating, velvety texture that glides smoothly across the lips, depositing decent pigment and coverage with a comfortable finish.
It doesn’t last as long on the lips as the Duck Plump Gloss, but thankfully it tops up relatively easily – just be sure to go in with a lip balm first if your pout is particularly dry to avoid pilling or feathering.
