A good concealer does two jobs at once. It hides what you want hidden, whether that's a blemish, redness or a dark shadow, and it brightens the areas you want to look fresh. The range runs from lightweight liquids to creamy, full coverage formulas, so you can match the finish to your skin and the look you're after. We're an official stockist of Clinique, Benefit Cosmetics, NYX Professional Makeup, Maybelline, Huda Beauty, TIRTIR and e.l.f. Cosmetics, among others.
Start with how much coverage you want. A full coverage concealer is the one to reach for when you need a blemish or discolouration gone, while a lighter formula suits days when you only want to soften a shadow. Dry skin usually does best with a hydrating concealer, because richer, creamier textures sit more comfortably and are less likely to look patchy. Oily skin tends to prefer a liquid concealer that dries down to a matte finish. If that sounds like you, try the Huda Beauty #Fauxfilter Luminous Matte Liquid Concealer or the e.l.f. Cosmetics 16hr Camo Concealer.
Shade range matters as much as formula. The Clinique Even Better All-Over Concealer + Eraser and the Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Concealer both come in a long list of shades, and the NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Serum Concealer is another one to consider if you like a serum-style texture. Always compare the shade to your jaw or neck in natural light, not just your hand.
Dark circles often need a different approach. Under eye concealers are made for the delicate skin around your eyes, and a colour correcting concealer cancels out colour before you cover it. The Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Color Corrector comes in Peach, Mango, Papaya and Pink Pomelo. If you like having every shade in one place, a concealer palette lets you mix and match for blemishes, contouring and brightening.
Apply concealer after foundation if you want extra coverage, or before it if you prefer a more natural base. For blemishes, match your skin tone and dab on a small amount, then tap it in with a fingertip or a damp sponge rather than rubbing. To brighten under the eyes, go one to two shades lighter than your skin tone and blend outwards. Thin layers beat one thick layer, and they are less likely to crease. If your skin only needs a hint of coverage, a sheer or light coverage foundation paired with spot concealing is often all you need.
To keep it in place through the day, set it with a light dusting of setting powder. Use a small brush and press the powder on instead of sweeping it, especially under the eyes.
