I used to be one of those people who didn’t really get the hype around eye creams.
Couldn’t I just spread my other skincare products up to the eye contour area? Am I just being duped into buying small tubs of moisturiser?!
That said, one eye cream I’ve recently been trying and am absolutely loving is the Lancôme Genifique Eye Cream.
I'd go as far as to say it’s one of the best eye creams I’ve tried for dehydrated eyes and reducing the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.
I know. BIG call. Keep reading to find out why it’s so good, and why I think it’s worth the exxier price point.
Do You Actually Need An Eye Cream?
Truthfully, no one needs any beauty product. So no, eye creams aren't a must-have in your skincare routine.
But if you have the cash to spend on skin care, they're a very-nice-to-have. And depending on whether you want to target dark circles, puffiness or fine lines (or all three), eye creams can also serve a specific purpose.
The skin under and around our eyes is more delicate than the rest of your face. Eye creams have been formulated with this in mind, as applying thicker moisturisers and serums to the area may cause milia (little hard, white bumps of keratin that should be extracted by a skin professional).
Really, it comes down to your skin and budget. I’ve personally seen a visible change under my eyes since introducing an eye cream or gel/serum into my skincare routine.
You can watch more of my under eye/dark circle ~journey~ in this YouTube video below.
I first came across this serum when I wrote an article about the benefits of probiotic skin care (read it here to find out more about your skin's microbiome), but basically, people love how the Lancôme Genifique serum restores your skin's balance of good and bad bacteria. And how it makes their faces look plump and juicy.
So, the team at Lancôme decided to put their 20 years of microbiome skincare research into this new highly concentrated cream that promises to visibly reduce the appearance of dark circles, and smooth and plump the under eye area.
What's In the Genifique Eye Cream?
This lush little tub is enriched with ingredients including:
Vitamin CG or Ascorbyl Glucoside - A gentle and stable derivative of vitamin C that can help brighten the appearance of dark circles
Hyaluronic Acid - A humectant (hydrating) ingredient that holds onto water in the skin for a plumper appearance.
A complex of seven pre and probiotic ingredients such as bifida ferment lysate and lactobacillius to help strengthen the skin barrier around the delicate eye contour area.
What’s even more impressive is how the Lancome Genifique Eye Cream 15ml is clinically shown to work both instantly and over time to improve skin radiance, smoothness and hydration, as well as decrease the appearance of fine lines, after just one use.
A self-assessment of 55 women who used the cream had these visible results:
After seven days, 93% agreed the eye contour felt replumped, 91% agreed the skin eye contour felt bouncy, and 80% agreed the eye contour appeared firmer.
After finishing one jar, 91% agreed the eye contour appeared lifted and tightened, and 82% agreed it appeared smoother.
Oh, and here's a little video to show you the delicious gel-cream texture of this product!
My Lancôme Genifique Eye Cream Review.
Those stats meant nothing to me until I used it for a week and saw subtle results almost instantly.
Here are my thoughts after using the Lancôme Genifique Eye Cream for seven days:
This eye cream has a soft, buttery consistency that melts into the skin beautifully.
The gel cream feels nourishing and deeply hydrating as soon as you apply it.
There is a pleasant scent, but you can hardly smell it once it’s on your skin.
You only need the tiniest amount so one small jar will last you ages.
The jar is made from recyclable glass (just be sure to store it somewhere where it won't fall and smash).
When I apply the eye cream at night, my eye area feels smoother and gives me a hint of natural glow.
Bonus, using this eye gel makes my concealer look more radiant when I apply it.
That's all lovely, but did I see any visible results? UM YES.
The biggest thing I noticed after just a few days of using the product at night was the subtle luminosity it gave my whole under eye and cheekbone area. The skin looked bouncier and more hydrated.
Did it banish my dark circles? No. Mine are genetic, so no magic eye cream is going to get rid of them, but after seven days of using this product, they didn’t appear as hollow.
My under eyes look a little plumper and slightly brighter. And for someone with really dark circles like me, these subtle yet noticeable changes are everything. EV-ER-Y-THING.
This Luminous Eye Cream Makes Me Look like I Get 8 Hours Of Sleep Every Night
