We ask a lot of our hair: blow drying, curling, straightening, bleaching, colouring, time in the sun and the water. It does what it can, but it needs a little help. Enter the one and only Olaplex. This Californian hair care brand relies on a patented bond-building ingredient to restore your hair’s strength, elasticity and resilience. For exactly how it does that, and why you need it, read on.
What is Olaplex?
Well, Olaplex is a brand of hair care products, but we’re thinking you want to know what it does. The long version gets pretty technical, but the short version is that all Olaplex products are made with a proprietary ingredient which works to restore the disulfide bonds which hold your hair together. Damage to these bonds is what causes fragile, coarse, frizzy hair, so it makes sense that repairing them will lead to stronger, softer, healthier hair.
How should I use Olaplex No. 3?
Olaplex 3 is a pre-shampoo treatment, designed to be used on damp hair. You can either wet your hair with water (a spray bottle is very handy here) or use Olaplex 0, for an even more potent treatment. If you’re doing this extra step, let it sit in your hair for 10 minutes before applying Olaplex 3 generously from root to tip - if you’ve just used water, there’s no need to wait. Then, let the treatment work for 10 minutes or more, hop in the shower, and shampoo and condition your hair as per.
Is Olaplex worth it?
Oh, we’d say Olaplex is definitely worth it. From the original Olaplex No. 3, to the newer Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, to the styling cream, hair oil, and more, these products are heaven on damaged hair. Why not really treat your hair, and opt for a full Olaplex kit? They can’t turn back the clock, and they’re not the same as a haircut, but in terms of preventing damage, and reducing its effects, Olaplex is the gold standard. You’ll want to get involved.
Olaplex products are all vegan and cruelty free, and sulphate free.
