I’m the go-to guide gal and routine queen here at Adore Beauty. I have a background in media and communications, and over 3 years experience in the beauty industry. When I’m not answering all of your burning questions, you can find me spruiking underrated products to my co-workers and trying to figure out what our best bloody mascara is.
Hair tools can be fun to play around with, and with so many on the market, it’s easy to become fascinated by new tech and all the hype around it.
For me personally, the idea of accumulating a bunch of clunky gadgets is a bit of a storage nightmare, particularly when the straightener I have is so versatile.
So, instead of encouraging you to add yet another hair tool to your wishlist, we thought we’d take you through how to curl hair with the ghd straightener you have.

Here’s How to Curl with ghd:

1. Prep with a Heat Protectant

  • When it comes to prepping the hair for styling, there are a few ways to go about it, but the most important thing to remember is heat protection, no matter the form it comes in.
  • One of our favorite styling products is the GHD Body Goals - Volumising Heat Protect Foam 200mL. While adding ample heat protection, this product boosts volume for a fuller look.
  • Apply it to towel dried hair before blow drying for some weightless lift.
  • If you’re just into keeping things frizz free and flat we recommend trying the GHD Bodyguard - Heat Protect Spray 120mL.
  • This heat protectant spray can be layered with other styling products before blow drying or styling making it a super versatile option.

2. Part Your Hair for Styling

The next step is to part your hair for successful styling.
Creating sections will make the styling process easier, particularly if you have longer, thicker hair.
  • Start by styling the top section of your hair (from crown to eyebrow) in a horse shoe shape.
  • Then, move onto the middle section of your hair (top of the ear to bottom), before moving onto the final section of your hair (from the bottom of your ear to the nape of your neck).

3. The Right Technique

  • Place the styler close to the roots.
  • Twist forward and turn to 180 degrees, then gently guide the styler with the plates down the ends of the hair.
  • Repeat and then move to the next section, until all the hair has been curled.

4. Brush Out Your Curls

For a softer look we recommend brushing out your curls.
First, wait for curls to cool before brushing them out with a soft bristle brush.

How to Hold the Curl

There are several products we recommend for finishing your style and holding your curl:
We hope this guide explaining how to curl hair with the ghd straightener helps you get the most life out of your styling tools and leaves you with effortless, bouncy curls.
