If there's one thing I've learnt from over 15 years of lightening my hair, it's that keeping blonde/highlighted hair healthy can turn into a full time job.
Trust me, I've tried it ALL. Blonde from the roots, balayage, bright blonde money pieces framing my face. Let's just say bleach and I were in a full-blown love affair throughout my 20s. These days I'm more of a bronde gal, but after years of experimentation, I'm ALWAYS on the hunt for products that will keep my lightened locks looking and feeling their best.
So naturally, when I heard about Kérastase's NEW Blonde Guard, a leave-in treatment designed to protect lightened hair from everyday damage, I was VERY intrigued.

If you’ve ever lightened your hair you're probably all too familiar with the warnings about environmental factors that can cause further damage to bleached hair. We're talking heat styling, UV exposure, chlorine and salt water, all of which become particularly relevant as we head into summer. Thankfully, Kérastase's NEW Blonde Guard is designed to protect against exactly that.
Okay, so I have some good news and some not-so-great news when it comes to lightening your hair.
The not-so-great news? The lightening process involves breaking down the hair's natural pigment, which can also weaken its protective cuticle. This leaves hair strands more porous, meaning they're more likely to lose moisture, tangle easily and become prone to breakage.
The good news? That's exactly where Blonde Guard comes in. Its lightweight, milky formula is specifically designed to tackle these concerns, helping to counteract dryness while protecting the hair against external stressors.

Hyaluronic Acid
If you're familiar with hyaluronic acid in skincare, you'll already know it's a bit of a hydration hero. In haircare, it helps replenish moisture and improve hair softness, which is particularly handy for lightened hair that's feeling a little dry or rough.
Vitamins C + E
Together, these ingredients help keep lightened hair feeling soft and hydrated, while providing antioxidant protection against environmental stressors that can leave blonde hair looking dull between salon appointments.
Who Is Kérastase Blonde Guard Best For?
Despite the name, you definitely don't need to be a platinum blonde to benefit from Blonde Guard. Whether you're an all-over blonde, balayaged or somewhere in between (hello, fellow brondes), it's designed for hair that's been through any lightening process.

My Kérastase Blonde Guard Review
Onto what I actually thought of Blonde Guard, the results are in and I’m pleased to report that I genuinely loved it.
For context, I'd had my hair coloured the week before, which is usually when brushing my hair becomes an absolute nightmare, especially after a fresh wash. So I was pleasantly surprised by how easily my brush glided through after applying Blonde Guard to my wet locks. Honestly, the detangling alone was enough to win me over for life.
Another thing I really appreciated was just how lightweight the product felt. I have a LOT of hair, but the individual strands are quite fine, so anything too rich or heavy can quickly become a problem. Despite Blonde Guard feeling pretty much undetectable after applying, my hair felt noticeably softer and more hydrated. The best bit? For once, I didn't feel quite so guilty reaching for my dryer and curler, knowing I had heat protection of up to 230°C working in my favour.
As for the long-term benefits? With summer just around the corner, I'm particularly keen to see how my blonde holds up against the sun, chlorine and salt water. If my first few uses of Blonde Guard are anything to go by, I'm feeling quietly optimistic that this will be a game changer in my haircare routine.
Is Kérastase Blonde Guard Worth It?
