By now, we hope our beauty-savvy Beauty IQ readers know the importance of looking after your scalp as part of a healthy hair routine.

If you're still new to the ‘Skinification’ of hair which includes staying on top of scalp care, don't worry, we’ll have more scalp health stories on the way to you soon.

In short, scalp health and healthy, ‘salon-worthy’ hair are mutually-exclusive.

And lucky for us, there’s now a slew of clever beauty brands that are formulating haircare products to protect, nourish and clean our manes while looking after look after our scalps, too.

One such brand is Oribe. (They’re the luxe haircare brand that makes the popular Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray that has over 70 five-star reviews on Adore Beauty alone).

The bougie hair care company has just launched a collection specifically formulated for those with oily scalps and hair types…

The Serene Scalp Oil Control range uses a three-pronged approach to help with excessive oil production as well as soothe irritated scalps.

As someone who gets greasy hair literally a day and a half after washing it (I also tend to touch my hair 1000 times a day) as well as the occasional flaking, I was very excited the Oribe Serene Scalp Oil Control range landed in my hands to trial.

Dreamy packaging aside, I was keen to try this three-step range that targets oily roots like mine, helps to balance the scalp’s microbiome (yes it’s a thing, just like your face/skin microbiome) AND promises to extend time between washes.

This all sounds like music to my ears but what did the products feel like worked through my hair?

While it did help with refreshing my oily mane, it also did something else I didn’t expect.

Let’s find out more...

What Is the Serene Scalp Oil Control Collection?

Serene Scalp Oil Control Serene Scalp Oil Control

An extension of their existing scalp collection (the ones in the pretty pastel pink packaging), the Serene Scalp Oil Control collection is as the brand describes it, where luxury meets science.

Specifically formulated to reduce excess oil and sebum, it aims to balance the scalp’s delicate microbiome which is often the reason behind your greasy tresses!

The three-step regimen consists of a scalp-mattifying mist, a purifying shampoo and a fast-absorbing dry shampoo.

Housed in beautiful, dusty lavender packaging, this range won’t just look beautiful in your bathroom, it’s also here to help oilier hair friends extend their style between washes.

The Serene Scalp Oil Collection is formulated with Oribe’s Biome Balancing Complex that contains key ingredients like rosebay extract (helps rebalance scalp microflora, decrease sebum production and soothe scalp irritation) and green marine algae.

In a consumer panel of 101 women who used the shampoo and mist, 90% saw a noticeable reduction in oiliness of the hair and scalp.

If I can get the same result from this range over time, I’m going to be a very happy gal.

My Oribe Serene Scalp Oil Control Treatment Mist review:

When I first spritzed this through different sections of my scalp (and on my damp hair) I was expecting it to dry down sticky and for my hair to feel gritty/chalky after blow-drying because I’ve had this experience before.

Thankfully, there was no stickiness!

It absorbed quite quickly into my strands and left them feeling slightly silkier.

The sheer, lightweight formula didn’t weigh my hair down either.

I’m just really happy to be incorporating a scalp mist designed specifically for oily hair like mine into my hair routine.

I also think this mist was partly responsible for something else I didn't expect, which you’ll have to keep scrolling to my final verdict to find out.

My Oribe Serene Scalp Oil Control Shampoo review:

From the luxe and decadent packaging to the scents and texture, using an Oribe haircare product has always felt like a sensorial experience.

This shampoo was no different.

It felt gorgeous to apply and it smelled like an expensive bouquet of flowers.

Why would I repurchase it again?

I always think it’s worth investing in a good shampoo (I haven't had much luck with supermarket ones lately and find a lot of them dry out my hair).

I also found this one distributed quite generously through my thick hair which is a key factor for me.

I’ve tried a lot of fancy shampoos that don't properly distribute through all of my hair and are better suited to thinner hair types. I like that this lathers nicely too (though not essential, I like the feeling of a good lather in my hair).

After blow-drying, I found my hair felt really clean and looked really refreshed (so their promise of ‘rejuvenated’ hair is no lie).

What impressed me most was the minimal frizz I saw after using this shampoo and mist together!

Usually after blow-drying my shampooed hair, I have to run my ghd over it to sleek down frizz, but I didn't need to in this case. Amazing!

My Oribe Serene Scalp Oil Control Dry Shampoo Powder review:

I’m a big fan of dry shampoos.

As someone who gets greasy hair and oily roots very quickly (mostly because of the incessant touching), they’re a beauty staple for me.

They're also usually the first beauty product that goes in my travel bag.

So as you can imagine I've tried a lot of dry shampoos for oily hair, and not all of them are that great.

Some leave a chalky residue, smell too powdery, or leave hair looking and feeling worse (read: gritty, sandy and dry) and some don’t absorb quick enough so I’m left with a white shadow on my jet black hair.

Not cool.

Luckily, this fancy dry shampoo did none of those naughty things.

It was fast-absorbing, smelled lovely and It swiftly soaked up the oil and mattified my greasy roots while giving my hair some extra zhuzh (which didn't go limp and lasted a few hours).

Winner.

I know it's pricey for a dry shampoo, but if you do want a luxe one, know that this one is lovely.

Final Verdict…

Of course using a range that targets my specific hair type is amazing, as is the sensorial experience from the smell and textures that Oribe products deliver, but what I didn't expect was the VOLUME.

I’m pretty sure the extra body in my hair was as a result of the mist working in combination with the shampoo. It looked like I had a professional blow dry!

The picture below was a day after washing, my hair still had so much oomph!
