The days are warming up and that means it's spritz season.
And no, I'm not talking about Aperol, I'm talking face mists. I've been trawling through the Adore Beauty supply closet to narrow down a list of the best face mists for summer.
Along with sunny picnics, lazy beach days and long, warm summer nights - SPF obligatory, of course - now is the ideal time to add a refreshing face mist to your beauty arsenal.
Pfft, aren't face mists just fancy scented water, you ask?
Sure, some are, but some are mist-multitools that:
Revive crusty makeup
Smooth serum application and penetration
Freshen up your skin for that dewy summer glow
Hydrate your skin while leaving your makeup intact
Add a burst of refreshment to your day (especially, if you keep yours in the fridge)
Need more convincing? Keep scrolling for more reasons why you should be adding a spritz to your summer beauty routine, plus I'll recommend some of my go to face mists.
What is a Face Mist?
If you're thinking face mists are a bit of a marketing ploy, I hear you and I used to feel the same. However, like many skincare categories, face mists have upped their game in the last couple of years.
Many face mists have elevated their formulas to include hydrating or skincare-boosting ingredients. Meaning they are an easy way to give your 3pm-skin a zhoosh or to prep or set your makeup (more on that later).
Plus, chucking one in your bag is a total game changer for summer. You'll be looking fresh-faced and smiling smugly to yourself as everyone sweats through the heat (warning: the face mist non-believers will be asking to borrow a spray).
And yes, this experience can be majorly elevated if past you remembers to keep yours in the fridge.
What's the difference between a face mist and a setting spray?
A face mist is a skincare product that's main goal is to hydrate and refresh the skin, while a setting spray is a makeup product that is designed to lock the makeup in place. While a face mist can change the finish of your makeup application it won't set it like a setting spray will. However, the skincare scientists have been working hard and now you can even find hydrating face mist/setting spray hybrids that can do it all.
Which is the Best Face Mist?
Face mists won't radically change or transform your skin. But if you can afford one, they’re a nice-to-have that can offer worthy benefits and boost other products in your routine. (Psst if you're still wondering what products should be in your rotation, have a look at our skincare routine guide). There's not a single absolute best face mist (you've heard before – everyone's needs are different) but to help you narrow it down, I've filtered my favourite face mists by concern so you can breeze into summer, spritz at the ready.
