When Skincare Becomes a Ritual: My Review of Jurlique’s Rose Range

As a cosmetic doctor, I spend a lot of time thinking about skincare in terms of ingredients, formulation and results. Does it support the skin barrier? Will they see results? Will this stimulate collagen? Will someone realistically enjoy using it consistently? How does it sit with other products? These questions obviously all matter, but sometimes I find that in pursuit of the most clinically effective routine, we forget that skincare is a ritual and that’s how it all started really for most of us.
That is what stood out to me most while using Jurlique’s Rose range.

What Is the Jurlique Rose Range Australia?

It brings together hydration and nourishment with a genuinely luxurious sensory experience. I have been using the serum, emulsion and the face oil from the Rare Rose Range for a month now and here are my thoughts on it.

Why the story of the rose matters

Jurlique grows its botanicals on its farm in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, and the rose at the heart of this range has a particularly special story. I recently had the pleasure of attending a Jurlique event where we spoke with one of the people who works on the farm. Hearing firsthand about the delicacy of the roses, the care involved in cultivating them and the timing required when they are harvested gave me a new appreciation for what eventually arrives in the bottle.

It is easy to see a botanical ingredient on packaging without considering where it came from. Meeting someone involved in the growing process made that connection feel tangible. Jurlique’s approach, from growing and harvesting its botanicals in Australia to incorporating them into its formulations, is part of what makes the range feel distinctive.
The fragrance is part of that experience too. All their products have a beautiful hint of natural rose rather than the strong, overtly perfumed scent that can make skincare feel overwhelming. The formulas are described as being free from artificial fragrance, so the aroma feels connected to the botanical itself. It makes the routine feel indulgent without turning it into a purely fragrance-led experience.

Hydration and nourishment are not quite the same thing

The words “hydrating” and “nourishing” are often used interchangeably in skincare, but they describe slightly different functions.
Hydrating products help increase the water content within the upper layers of the skin, while oils primarily soften the skin and help reduce the loss of that moisture.
This is why a serum, emulsion and facial oil can work particularly well together (especially if you have dry skin), they are complementary rather than repetitive.

My Jurlique Rare Rose Reviews

The Jurlique Rare Rose serum has been my hydration step. From the first application, my skin felt immediately more hydrated and comfortable. It has a lightweight texture that layers nicely with the rest of my routine and sits beautifully under makeup. Because I have combination skin, this step alongside my regular SPF is enough hydration for daytime. There is no heavy residue or frustrating pilling, which is so important for day wear for me.

The Jurlique Rare Rose Emulsion is the next product that can be applied on top of the serum.
Hot to use an emulsion? This can be used morning and night pending your skin type. It has a milky texture which makes it still feel super light whilst still managing to add an extra layer of comfort and hydration. It is great if you want something to apply after a serum but you find traditional creams a bit too heavy.

The Jurlique Rare Rose Face Oil is the product I have trialled only in the evening as it really doesn’t hydrate the skin in quite the same way as a water-based serum. It softens the skin and seals in moisture which is great if you want to reduce overnight trans-epidermal water loss. Only a few drops is needed. I like to press into my skin as part of my evening routine a few times a week. Another hack you can do is add a few drops of it into your favourite moisturiser.

But what about combination skin?

I have combination skin, so I can be cautious with richer or oil-based formulas. There is a persistent misconception that anyone with an oilier T-zone should avoid facial oils entirely. In reality, the overall formulation, the amount applied and how your individual skin responds matter far more than the word “oil” on the label. For example I don’t use heavy products in the morning and my “oily” products are applied a few times a week in the evening.
If you are prone to congestion, start with one or two drops of the face oil rather than applying a generous layer and you can just use on areas that feel dry. Those with very sensitive skin should also remember that naturally aromatic botanical ingredients can still be sensitising for some people, even when a product contains no artificial fragrance. I advise a patch test if you have known sensitivity.

The value of enjoying your routine

We often discuss skincare as if it is a checklist of problems to solve: pigmentation, dehydration, fine lines, blemishes or sensitivity. While good skincare should absolutely be chosen with your skin’s needs in mind, the best routine is also one you look forward to using.
There is value in taking a few minutes at the beginning or end of the day to slow down (I value this so much more now as a mum). The texture of a serum, the way an oil is pressed into the skin and a subtle botanical scent can turn a functional routine into a small moment of care.
That does not make skincare less serious or less evidence-led. If anything, enjoyment can support consistency and if you’ve followed me on social media, you would know how much I talk about consistency as being the most important part of any effective routine.

Final verdict...

After more than a month, my lasting impression is not only that my skin feels hydrated and comfortable, but that I genuinely enjoy reaching for the products.
In a beauty landscape that can make skincare feel increasingly technical and demanding, Jurlique offers a welcome reminder: results matter, but so does the experience of caring for your skin and those few minutes at the beginning and end of your day.
