The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Reviews.
I'm all for choosing skincare products based on your skin type.
I have dry skin prone to dehydration, which usually results in semi-regular breakouts along my chin and jawline.
I've been using The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution as a spot treatment on my aforementioned chimples (aka chin pimples).
If you have oily or combination skin, The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution - 30ml would be the better The Ordinary salicylic acid serum for you.
The main difference I've noticed between The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution vs. The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution is the texture.
Because The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution contains squalane, which is a lipid or fatty substance, the clear serum has an oily texture along with a very, very faint deli meat smell.
If you've ever tried The Ordinary's retinol in squalane serums, they feel very similar, rather than the lighter, watery texture of the original salicylic acid serum.
Same goes for the scent if you're familiar with The Ordinary's best-selling Squalane Cleanser.
Oilier skin types might prefer the clear, silky texture of the new-and-improved The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution, however my dry skin breakouts quite enjoy the extra nourishment from the oil.
The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Before and After.
For maybe the first time ever, I wasn't completely bummed when a cohort of hormonal breakouts made themselves known on my lower face a day before a special occasion.
It was the perfect opportunity to road-test the new serum and document my The Ordinary salicylic acid before and after results.
Even better, I did precisely what I'd always say not to do and squished the heck out of my pimples when they weren't anywhere near ready.
This gave the salicylic acid serum some angry, inflamed breakouts to work with.
After cleansing, applying my usual hydrating serum and moisturiser at night, I popped a very small amount of the salicylic acid serum directly onto my blemishes.
Off to bed I went. Exhibit A.
Because the serum texture is fairly oily, I found I only needed the tiniest amount. A little does go a long way, especially if you're planning on using this serum as a spot treatment.
My breakouts had improved slightly by the morning, but I continued using the serum each night, just on the pimples.
Within 48 hours, my breakouts looked significantly better.
Rather than being whiteheads filled with pus, the spots had begun to heal and flatten.
Four days later, a few small pink post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation marks were the only sign the cystic breakouts had been there at all.
Overall, my dry skin prefers The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution over the beloved original.
As always, though, do what works for your skin, not mine.
