Vitamin A is, hands down, one of my favourite skincare ingredients.

I talk about it all the time, and if you’re coming to see me in-clinic, you will hear about my unwavering love for it non-stop.

You see, vitamin A is one of the most scientifically-researched skincare ingredients proven to create a change in your skin.

It can help with age management concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, acne, skin tone and texture, dullness, pigmentation - the lot.

Finding the right vitamin A product with the right strength for you isn't so simple.

Some skins need a gentle vitamin A serum to avoid irritation like dryness, flaking or skin purging.

Then there's people like me, who have been using cosmeceutical skincare and getting clinical skin treatments for years.

Watch this video below for more info on the right vitamin A product for your skin.

There are a tonne of beginner retinol serums and gentle vitamin A products out there, but what about stronger retinols for when you're ready to step up?

My face is basically a brick. The stronger, the better when it comes to my skin.

On that note, I was super excited when one of my favourite active skincare brands Aspect announced they were launching a new high-strength vitamin A treatment.

It's called Aspect Retinol LGS, and yes, it is spicy. It also comes in at under $80.

Read on for all the info, plus my Aspect retinol review.

What Is Aspect Retinol LGS?

Aspect Retinol LGS is a vitamin A serum for seasoned retinol users or anyone ready to step up.

It exfoliates as well as encourages cell renewal to clear congestion, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Aspect Retinol LGS is great for skin concerns like signs of ageing, uneven skin tone, congestion (or all of the above).

This is because the formula combines a bunch of powerful active ingredients like:

  • Vitamin A complex: A blend of retinol, retinal and retinyl palmitate and phytoretinoid Lanablue.

  • Lactic and glycolic acids: AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) that get rid of dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin.

  • Salicylic acid: An oil-soluble BHA (beta hydroxy acid) that exfoliates within the pores to help treat acne, congestion and uneven skin texture.

  • Kojic complex: Visibly brightens the skin and targets pigmentation.

  • Lactococcus ferment lysate and lysolecithin: Protect the skin from free radicals and aid in the delivery of actives.

How does this new Aspect retinol compare to the brand's other Retinol Brulee product?

Neither Aspect Retinol Brulee nor Retinol LGS are considered beginner vitamin A products, but Retinol LGS is more advanced.

If you've been using and loving Aspect Retinol Brulee for a while, Retinol LGS would be a great step up.

How to Use This Aspect Retinol.

The combination of vitamin A and exfoliating ingredients makes this product an advanced serum.

I would avoid it if you are a skincare/vitamin A beginner, or have sensitive skin.

Vitamin A should always be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, too.

Here are some tips for how to use vitamin A:

  • Apply at night on clean, dry skin before any other serums or creams.

  • Layer a moisturiser underneath or on top if you're concerned about irritation.

  • Start by applying every third night before gradually building up your tolerance to every second night, and eventually nightly.

And always - ALWAYS - wear sunscreen, especially when using vitamin A in your skincare routine.

My Aspect Retinol LGS Review.

This retinol serum is packaged in a very similar way to Aspect Fruit Enzyme Mask 50g and Aspect Phytostat 9 with the pump packaging.

When you gently press the pump, it instantly delivers the right amount of serum to spread onto your whole face.

I popped it onto dry skin at night after double cleansing. You can follow with a moisturiser afterwards if you feel like you need more moisture.

Personally, I don't - brick face, remember.

The texture of this vitamin A serum sank right into the skin and didn't leave a sticky residue. There's no scent either.

I actually thought it would feel a little prickly or spicy on the skin given the ingredients list, but it glides on like a dream and didn't cause any stinging or irritation.

Here's how my skin looked the next day!

The next morning, I obviously woke up looking glowier and brighter, as products with exfoliating ingredients do tend to have an instant effect.

As for the other claims, know that it takes months of consistent use to see the full effects of active skincare products like this one.

Honestly though, it's a very beautiful product to use, and at an accessible price point as far as cosmeceutical skincare is concerned.

No stinging, and it would be super easy to incorporate into a night time skincare routine.

Keep in mind, this is a two-in-one product.

It's your retinol AND exfoliant, so there's no need for another exfoliating product in your routine.

Final Verdict…

Who is this retinol product right for?

  • Firstly, it's not for beginners or those with sensitive skin.

  • Perfect for anyone who wants to tackle significant sun damage and/or congestion concerns with their skincare.

  • Suitable for people who have been using their current retinol product for a while, without any issues, and are keen to try something stronger.

  • Great if you want to streamline your night time routine (because we are all tired).

Couple this product with some clinical treatments, and you've got yourself a great game plan for managing ageing, acne and pigmentation skin concerns.

Highly recommend.
