Let Me Tell You Why This New Anti-Brass Blonde Hair Mask Is 100% Worth Its Price Tag

Controversial opinion, but I'm not sure I agree with the saying 'blondes have more fun'. Natural blondes, maybe. But maintaining dyed blonde hair? Not so much.

I hate to think how much I spend on getting my blonde hair coloured every 3 months, only for it to go brassy within weeks.

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Literally, we're talking about over $1,200 in hairdressing services each year, not to mention the hours I spend in the salon chair.

I've tried so many blonde haircare products that say they'll keep my ashy blonde from turning gold. They never do. Last month, I almost threw in the towel and thought maybe I'd be better off going back to my natural light brown hair colour.

That same week, I got an email from Adore's Editor asking me if I'd like to road test a new blonde hair range that promises to get rid of brassy tones after one wash.

And so, back I went to the hairdressers to give it one more go. Spoiler: I'm really glad I did.

Keep scrolling for my review of the Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde range and why it's 100 per cent worth the money.

What Is the Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde Range?

Short answer: Meet the seriously luxurious purple blonde hair products I didn't know I needed, until now.

The new Yūbi Blonde range from luxury haircare brand Shu Uemura promises to be the purest, most intense anti-brass neutralisation range out. It delivers the cool, ashy tones you're after, without drying your hair out or making your colour look dull.

From natural blondes and silver or greying hair, to platinum blondes and anyone with lightened or highlighted hair, Yūbi Blonde is the answer to maintaining long-lasting cool blonde results.

What's in these magical purple blonde hair products? This range is made with rare Japanese-sourced ingredients including white peony, which is rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties for nourishing and soothing hair fibres. Shu Uemura also use exclusive technology that results in a more intense, purer colour for counteracting brassiness and neutralising warm tones.

Here's a recap of the four Yūbi Blonde products in the range:

1. Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde Glow Shampoo.

  • Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Glow Shampoo 300ml is a brightening shampoo for highlighted blonde hair.

  • Gently cleanses to remove product build up, while conditioning the hair at the same time.

  • Unlike a toning shampoo, this formula is hydrating and non-drying, and can used in between washes with your blonde toning products OR as your first shampoo before going in with your stronger purple shampoo.

2. Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde Neutralising Shampoo.

  • Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Neutralising Shampoo 300ml is a hardworking yet gentle anti-brass toning purple shampoo for bleached blonde, highlighted, white or silver hair.

  • Neutralises unwanted warm and yellow tones with cool violet pigment for a pure cool blonde result.

  • Gently cleanses to remove product build up, while conditioning the hair at the same time.

3. Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde Replenishing Conditioner.

  • Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Replenishing Conditioner 250ml is a replenishing conditioner for highlighted blonde hair.

  • Conditions hair for a smoother, shinier, softer result.

  • Brightens the hair, detangles and adds body, without weighing hair down.

  • Works well when used with Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Glow Shampoo 300ml or Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Neutralising Shampoo 300ml as a part of a blonde haircare routine.

4. Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde Neutralising Treatment Mask - This one's the standout for me!

  • Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Neutralising Treatment Mask 200ml is a three-in-one blonde hair mask for bleached blonde, highlighted, white or silver hair.

  • Use in place of your conditioner to neutralise yellow tones for a pure cool blonde result

  • Conditions, nourishes and smooths the hair for a vibrant, healthy-looking result.

All four products are suitable for all hair types (including natural blondes), and you can mix and match them depending on the colour maintenance you need. For ongoing maintenance, use the glow shampoo and replenishing conditioner. If you want instant toning, sub in the neutralising shampoo and mask.

My Shu Uemura Yūbi Blonde Review.

Yes, these products sound amazing, but are they worth their luxe price tags? Because let's be honest - $70 for a blonde hair mask ain't cheap.

As someone who was this close to going brunette because of in-between appointment brassiness, Yūbi Blonde is absolutely worth the money. Let me tell you why...

First off, everything about the packaging, texture and scent screams luxury, darling. Just looking at the rich purple bottles in my shower makes me feel like I'm at a high-end salon (and not rushing to wash my hair before my baby realises I'm gone).

The textures can only be described as a beautiful goopy purple version of a melted chocolate fountain, and they all have a mild woody, floral fragrance formulated exclusively by the brand’s fragrance creator.

Side note, when Adore's Editor Amy Clark reviewed the Shu Uemura Ultimate Reset Mask, her partner commented on how nice the bathroom smelt afterwards.

After road-testing all four products over the last few weeks, I've finally nailed down my perfect blonde hair routine. First, I shampoo with the Yūbi Blonde glow revealing shampoo before applying the Yūbi Blonde anti-brass purple hair mask to damp hair. I leave it in for between three and five minutes, depending on how cool I want my hair to look (and how much time I have).

Here's the before and after result I got after just one wash.

It took all the brassiness out of my blonde hair IN MINUTES and left my hair feeling so soft. After my first use, I could instantly tell my hair felt more nourished than before. I have fine, straight hair and it's usually such a pain to comb through after a shower, but it felt softer and noticeably less knotty, even when wet.

Once my hair dried (I air dry because I am lazy and live in 90 per cent QLD humidity), my hair was such a beautiful cool blonde colour. I no longer looked ridiculous and yellow-haired. It was love at first wash.

Final Verdict...

Basically, Shu Uemura can take all my money because I will be repurchasing the glow revealing shampoo and anti-brass purple hair mask from their Yūbi Blonde range.

The combo of the Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Glow Shampoo 300ml and Shu Uemura Yubi Blonde Neutralising Treatment Mask 200ml makes my hair look freshly-coloured, and a little goes a long way. The bottles say they're suitable for everyday use, but I use the shampoo and mask twice per week because that's how often I get to wash my hair with an 18-month-old running around.

But even just the peace of mind I have knowing my hair colour will stay how I want it is worth everything. No more stressing, time wasting, additional salon toners, researching products to fix my hair and spending a mint on multiple purple shampoos.

Honestly, if you want to save money on your blonde hair, probably stop dyeing it blonde because it's an investment.

But if you love your blonde hair and have reached your limit with trying to maintain the colour you paid for when you left the salon, these products are worth every cent.
