All The Reasons I'm Hooked On This Liquid Highlighter

Judging by my contribution to Beauty IQ so far, you may be thinking ‘Seems like Yas is on a never ending quest for clear, glowing skin?’ Well, you’re right! Despite my oily/combo skin sometimes craving a mattifying powder, I persist with my journey to ultimate glow goals. 

While my most recent skincare discovery does help in this department (you can read about it here), sometimes my skin just needs an extra boost. Now I’m sure I could drink more water and get more sleep, but as a night owl who doesn’t like the taste of water (I know, I know) sometimes I have to fake it ‘till I make it. That’s where MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Soft Light Liquid Highlighter comes in. 

Why I Love This Highlighter:

If you like a natural-looking glow, this creamy illuminator is a game-changer. I’m not a fan of highlighters with intense sparkle because I’m not interested in being seen from outer space. You won’t find any chunky glitter or intense metallic sheen in this formula - and that’s just how I like it. I use shade 30 Champagne Gold, which complements my light/medium skin tone perfectly.

• Blends seamlessly into the skin & pairs beautifully with matte, satin & dewy finishes

• The blendable liquid formula won’t enhance skin texture or shift foundation

• Multi-purpose formula can be worn alone, over foundation or mixed into your base 

How I Use It:

My favourite way to apply this product is on no-makeup days to give my skin a little more oomph. After moisturising, I squeeze a pea sized amount (a little goes a long way) onto the back of my hand and use my ring finger to dab tiny dots of product onto the high points of my face; the top of my cheekbones, brow bone and Cupid's bow.

I then take a damp beauty sponge and gently bounce the product into my skin to blend it in. I follow with clear brow gel and a spritz of setting spray and voila! Instant “I woke up like this" radiance with very minimal effort required.

My Verdict:

What I love about the liquid formula of this product is that it doesn’t enhance my skin texture the same way that powder highlighters tend to accentuate the appearance of breakouts, enlarged pores and dry patches. And a note to all my oily skin gals - don’t be afraid of liquid formulas!

You can take extra measures to prevent unwanted shine, such as mattifying primers, setting sprays and a touch of translucent powder through the T-zone. While my skin does tend to get shiny no matter what I wear, I’ve learned to embrace the shine and pass it off as ‘dewy’.
