I'm Caitlin, I'm a part of the Adore Beauty customer service team. I have extremely dry skin but I also occasionally suffer from hormonal acne around my chin and jawline. This routine is how I go about clearing, treating, and best preventing my hormonal acne, to reveal beautiful juicy fembot like skin.

What Causes My Hormonal Acne?
Hormonal acne is a tricky one and I struggled with it for a few years, so I feel like I have a pretty good grip on what works for me and what doesn’t. Everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently, so it might take some trial and error before you find what works best for you.
For a long time I thought, I wouldn’t be able to treat my hormonal acne without sacrificing glowy, healthy and hydrated skin.
I like to keep in mind that skincare can help but unfortunately with hormonal acne it is coming from hormonal imbalances in the body, and there are lots of factors that can contribute to hormonal acne flaring up (i.e. diet, stress, and other external factors). Personally, I try my best to avoid eating dairy as I find this causes my hormonal acne to flare up even more. I also like to take supplements to try and help my skin from the inside out as well.
The biggest issue I personally face with having hormonal acne is that a large majority of products targeted to help treat acne are for oily skin types and work to reduce oil production and inevitably dry the skin out – for someone like myself who is already dry, this is my worst nightmare!

The Morning Skincare Routine that Works Best for My Hormonal Acne
For me this routine really helped to keep my breakouts at bay as much as possible but also kept my super dry skin hydrated and healthy. This takes me 10 minutes most mornings - if I'm just heading into the office I'm ready to go!
Step 1: Cosmedix Gentle Cleanser
Step 1: Cosmedix Gentle Cleanser
I apply one pump of
to a wet face and it removes any excess oil or dirt on my skin. I always make sure to double cleanse, just in case the first cleanse didn’t get absolutely everything. This cleanser is super light, smells nice and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or stripped. I like to gently dry my face with a towel.
Step 2: Aspect Vitamin B Serum
Step 2: Aspect Vitamin B Serum
is an absolute skincare must-have for AM and PM, I cannot live without a good vitamin B serum and this one is up there with one of the best there is. I apply one measured pump to my entire face and follow with my other serum. This serum targets fine lines, wrinkles, redness, oil levels, and skin is left firmer, brighter, and smoother.
Step 3: Dermalogica Spot Treatment
Step 3: Dermalogica Spot Treatment
is a god send for someone who is concerned about breakouts but also doesn’t want to dry their skin out. It targets adult acne while supporting the skin. Blemishes are treated effectively, while the signs of premature ageing are also prevented. I apply 4-5 drops to my face over the top of my Extreme B serum. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated but I know it is also working to combat my breakouts.
Step 4: PCA Clearskin Moisturiser
Step 4: PCA Clearskin Moisturiser
is a non-greasy moisturiser for traditionally for normal, combination and oily skin types prone to breakouts but I find the serums I use before hand are hydrating enough that I can get away with using this. I use a pea sized amount and apply it all over my face. I have found that this moisturiser works best when pushed into the skin rather than rubbed as it can sometimes ball or pill if you have too many products on your skin already.
Step 5: Ultra Violette Sunscreen SPF 50+
Step 5: Ultra Violette Sunscreen SPF 50+
Last but certainly not least, my AM routine concludes with hands down the best facial SPF I have ever used.
is a light weight, 3 in 1 sunscreen giving you the sun protection that you need but also has the makeup readiness of a primer. It sits perfectly under my makeup on the days I choose to wear it, and on the days that I choose to go makeup free it leaves my skin looking fresh and glowy.
