My Mum Has Used Joico Haircare for Years. Now, It’s at Adore - Here’s My Verdict

I was today years old when I discovered that Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Kourtney Kardashian and I all have one thing in common–Joico.

Yes, the latest addition to the Adore hair care lineup is behind some of the most famous heads of hair. And now, this beauty writer’s, too.

When Joico first landed on my desk, I thought it looked familiar.

Could it be, I wondered – the shampoo and conditioner I’d pinch from my mum’s shower? Even little Jas knew there was a difference between supermarket and salon haircare.

But with three girls to cater to, who could blame her? Not me, although my locks might.

Turns out Mum was the original influencer, entrusting Joico for years to revive and restore her colour-treated tresses on the recommendation of her hairdresser.

Mum then confirmed my suspicions while visiting a couple of weeks back. She spotted the cult-favourite K-PAK range in my bathroom and insisted it really was *that* good.

Needless to say, I was excited.

So much so that I didn’t even wait till hair wash day to give it a go.

I figured my tresses, still carrying a hint of product residue from the previous night's dinner reservation, were ripe and ready… enough.

What Is Joico?

Most are likely acquainted with Joico, having either seen it on salon shelves or, in my case, in their parents' bathroom.

For those unfamiliar, Joico has been a hair care stalwart for over four decades, founded in Los Angeles by hairdresser Steve Stefano.

His search for a scientific solution to repair and revitalise hair in-salon laid the foundation for Joico's simple mission—The joi of healthy hair.

'Joi' embodies the hallmarks of healthy hair for the salon brand: vitality, colour and shine.

Joico stands as a pioneer in using Keratin Protein, a naturally occurring element that fortifies and rebuilds hair from the inside out.

The K-PAK range, a mainstay since the brand's inception, comprises four essential steps—clarifying, acidifying, reconstructing and hydrating.

I picked up the shampoo, conditioner and mask from the K-PAK range, alongside an additional treatment that piqued my interest.

Here’s how they went...

My Joico Routine Review.

Joico K-PAK Clarifying Shampoo.

What: Joico K-PAK Clarifying Shampoo

For someone with the classic hair scenario of oily roots and dry ends, the Joico K-PAK Clarifying Shampoo seemed like an ideal fit.

Its detoxifying formula, designed to combat product buildup and excess oil, matched perfectly with my penchant for a slicked bun.

Beyond the science, the shampoo's scent stood out—some say it’s reminiscent of banana, others pineapple. For me, it’s of a luxurious floral fragrance found in upscale salons.

Unlike regular shampoos, a single application sufficed for a thorough cleanse.

That said, I did find myself reaching for my conditioner faster than I usually do.

The clarifying nature left my hair feeling notably dry, suggesting it's best used either as a first shampoo or on occasion for a scalp detox.

Despite this, the deep clean and removal of residue were undeniable, making it an ideal choice for oily hair havers and those with thick, coarse locks.

Joico K-PAK Reconstructing Conditioner.

What: Joico K-PAK Reconstructing Conditioner

Where the K-PAK Clarifying Shampoo left my hair a tad dry, the K-PAK Reconstructing Conditioner swooped in to restore nourishment thanks to a host of nourishing plant oils.

Its thick, creamy texture melted into my hair, leaving it smooth, soft, and, notably, frizz-free—a big win for someone constantly contending with static strands.

It claims to use targeted technology to locate and repair damaged areas, enhancing hair resistance to breakage.

While I can’t speak to my hair’s long-term resistance, it’s looked and felt healthier since using the K-PAK range, so I’ll take that as a win.

However, a heads up particularly if you have fine hair like me: be sure to thoroughly rinse the conditioner out, otherwise it can leave your hair a little heavy and accelerate its greasiness.

What: Joico K-PAK Reconstructor

If your hair is stressed or damaged, do yourself a favour and add the Joico K-PAK Reconstructor treatment to cart ASAP.

Its thick formula is rich in amino acids and keratin which help to rebuild and fortify hair that’s dry or damaged from regular lightening, colouring and heat styling.

Don’t be turned off by its creamy, somewhat curdled consistency (albeit less than desirable), a quick shake helps bring the formula together and doesn’t hinder its reconstructive capabilities. At least in my experience.

For fine hair like mine, it’s a little heavy for regular use in my routine.

But as a conditioner substitute every 1-2 weeks, it’s an ideal deep treatment to restore protein to dull and brittle locks, leaving them feeling touchably soft and nourished.

As for how it made my hair look, I think my selfies speak for themselves!

What: Joico Defy Damage Sleepover Overnight Nourishing Treatment

As a self-proclaimed ‘lazy girl’ when it comes to my haircare routine, the Joico Sleepover Treatment appealed to my desire for a hassle-free solution.

If I can avoid getting back in the shower to wash a product out, you best believe I’ll do it.

While this one by Joico was intended for use overnight, I’ve also been loving it on warm days when my hair feels particularly dry or brittle.

With a thin, lotion-like consistency, the treatment quickly absorbed into my hair.

However, as I learned, this isn't necessarily an indication you need more - the classic less is more principle applies.

Its instant softening effect and enhanced shine were evident, whether used overnight or during the day.

I also discovered the latter helps shield your hair from damage and pollution from environmental aggressors to keep your colour vibrant - we love a win-win.

Oh, and it smells divine.

Not tropical at all like the K-PAK range, more of a light vanilla-floral scent that’s just so damn good!

Final Verdict.

So if you’re after products to help return your hair to its most lustrous, healthful state, Joico is worth a closer look.
