A Makeup Artists Shares Her MAKE UP FOR EVER Routine

It's almost impossible for a makeup artist to choose their favourite brand, it's like asking us to pick our favourite child!

It's especially hard for a makeup artist (me) who works at Adore Beauty and has access to sooo many amazing beauty brands across different categories including makeup, skin, and hair.

I'm very fortunate that I get to road-test a wide range of products and palettes in my job and sometimes, they all just end up in my makeup kit (oops!).

It's hard to cull them, I end up loving them all.

I recently got my hands on a few new, fun Make Up For Ever products and have created a routine using some of my fave products from the brand.

I do love anything 'multi-use' so the Make Up For Ever HD Palette has also made a re-appearance recently.

Scroll down to see what look I’ve created with a few Make Up For Ever items… including a relaunch of a fan favourite mist.

What Is MAKE UP FOR EVER?

Most of you may have already heard of MAKE UP FOR EVER (MUFE), but for our readers that haven't, let me get you up to speed...

MAKE UP FOR EVER was founded in 1984 and is a professional makeup brand for everyone.

The brand has always worked with makeup professionals to keep their fingers on the pulse of all things new and exciting in the makeup industry.

Be it new make-up formulas, technology or trends to ensure they are constantly creating high-performance products for makeup fans and professional makeup artists all around the world.

So you can imagine as both a professional makeup artist and a MAKE UP FOR EVER fan, I love and use many of the brand's products in both my personal routine and on my clients.

Here is my current MAKE UP FOR EVER routine...

My MAKE UP FOR EVER Routine.

Step 1, Skin Prep.

Skin prep is essential for creating the perfect, long-wearing MUFE (MAKE UP FOR EVER) look.

After cleansing, I use the SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner 150ml. This gentle exfoliator removes dead skin cells, balances excess oil production and helps to brighten the appearance of my skin tone and texture.

Next up is the one and only Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Moisturiser . This miracle cream is so versatile, not only does it add instant hydration and a glow, it also acts as a primer.

Last skin step is always SPF. I'm currently using the Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50+ Luminising Sun Serum. This gives my skin a nice radiant 'glow-from-within' vibe.

Step 2, Foundation.

My current favourite MUFE Foundation is their MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Foundation

Since its reformulation last year it has been a top pick in my daily foundation rotation, especially when I'm looking for a long-wearing liquid foundation with medium to buildable coverage and a natural, skin-like finish.

I’ll apply this with a slightly damp beauty sponge and also add a spritz of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix 100ml Spray (more about that later…)

For adding more coverage I reach for my MAKE UP FOR EVER HD SKIN ALL-IN-ONE PALETTE - Shade H2. This palette contains the correct shades for any colour correcting and concealing I need to do on my skin.

It also has my highlighter and soft cream bronzer shade which I use to add warmth to my skin and as a blush.

Step 3, Eyes.

For this look I used the MAKE UP FOR EVER Star Lit Diamond Powder in 'White Gold'.

This is a shimmery loose powder with a pearl gold effect.

I spritzed my angle brush with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix 100ml Spray (nearly time to talk about this…) then dipped my brush into the loose powder and drew on the liner.

I’ve used the MAKE UP FOR EVER Gentle Eye Clean Removers to clean up any fallout and to sharpen the liner... This is a fragrance-free waterproof make-up remover, great for sensitive eyes and lips.

I finished off the eyes with a few coats of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Smoky Extravagant Mascara 7ml. This mascara is a new addition to my collection and I'm really liking the tapered spikey brush tip for creating definition to the lashes.

This is great for anyone with shorter lashes too, you won't end up with mascara all over your lids!

Step 4, Lips.

Lips are kept simple with a quick swipe of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Lipstick in 'Chic Brick'.

This is a warm mid-tone nude shade, easy to pop on a race out the door. These lipsticks have a creamy, hydrating texture with a satin/matte finish.

Another great MAKE UP FOR EVER set is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Limited Edition Artist Color Pencil Set Limited Edition Artist Colour Pencil Set.

These super soft multi-tasking pencils can be used anywhere on the face e.g: as a lip liner, eye liner and you can even create faux freckles with them!

I’ve created a winged liner with shade '608 Limitless Brown' and added '100 Whatever Black' in the top lash waterline to create a dense lash look.

The creamy texture of the Artist Pencils makes them ideal for mixing together for the lips.

Thanks to Hailey Bieber, I had to get my hands on and try the shade '600 Anywhere Caffeine'.

I tried it all over the lip and then lined my lips with '608 Limitless Brown' to create a soft coffee ombré.

These pencils can also be paired with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Lipsticks.

Step 5, Set The Look.

You would have seen me mention the Mist & Fix through this article and its because MUFE have re-launched their Mist and Fix Spray, and you’ll be happy to know they now have two options, based on your complexion types- dry or oily, hooray!

The MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix Matte 100ml Spray or the MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix Matte 100ml Spray can be used after each make-up step.

This can help with locking in and mattifying/ hydrating each layer in your application.

If you're looking for the ultimate day-to-night base (or night to day!) e.g 'office to after-work drinks', or even your wedding day, a mist and fix between each makeup step can be the missing link to adding longevity to your make up routine.

Both of these new mists are water-based (not alcohol) so great for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

When applying your foundation, you can spray a little of the Make Up Forever Setting Spray on your beauty sponge and stipple all over the face to press in and hold your base.

Spray directly onto your pre-loaded eyeshadow brush to intensify the shadow colour and increase longevity.

This works really well with shimmery shades to create a wet metallic look, or spritz your brush and create an eye liner.

If creasing concealer under your eyes is always an issue and you don't want to set with powder. You can add a light mist to your concealer brush and then tap over the concealer under your eyes to set it in place.

And, of course, applying it as your finishing touch at the end of your routine will help to blend your makeup together and remove the over powdered look.

Final Thoughts…

So there you have it, a quick tour into my Make Up For Ever world.

They really do have something for everyone in their range and I hope this helped to show you some ways to use their products to create a make-up look.
