Here Are All of the Reasons You Should Be Getting Into Kegels ASAP

As someone who is 100% too lazy for Pilates or Yoga, trying out specific exercises designed to strengthen your Pelvic Floor muscles personally seemed a little far-fetched. 

However, when I started researching Kegel ball exercises I certainly started to take them a bit more seriously, and after trying them, I can now say I am totally converted. 

So, if you’ve ever wondered about how to use Kegel balls, or what exactly are the benefits of Kegel exercises, please read on. This information could floor you. 

What are Kegels, and what are Kegel balls used for?

Kegel exercises work to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, which support the uterus, bladder, small intestine and rectum.

Kegel ball benefits include strengthening these muscles which is important as they generally weaken as we age, and particularly after child birth. 

The weakening of these muscles can lead to incontinence and other related issues, which I personally would like to avoid in my lifetime. 

It’s also claimed that by strengthening the pelvic floor that you can increase the intensity of your orgasms and all round sexual pleasure. 

That’s where Kegel balls come in.

What are Kegel balls? Kegel balls are small weighted balls that work to strengthen your pelvic floor by giving you an object to focus on during these exercises. Consider them weights for your pelvic floor. 

Sure, you don’t need to use Kegel balls to do the exercises, but they certainly do help. 

Sign me up. Now, how do I use Kegel balls?

Inserting Kegel balls is a fairly straightforward process. If you’ve used a tampon or a period cup, you’ve got the idea.

If you do find the process a bit of struggle, that’s okay. You can use one of our personal lubricants to assist you. 

Confused as to how to get Kegel balls out? Well, they generally have a small string loop attached, so you can gently remove them with a light pull. Again, much like a tampon.

But, how do I know if I’m using Kegel balls right?

Now that we’ve covered some of the more technical aspects, it’s time to talk about how to use Kegel balls so that you’re actually improving your pelvic floor strength. 

Kegel balls aren’t really much use to you when you’re sitting at your desk, and if you’re wondering if you can sleep with Kegel balls in, that would probably be unhelpful.

Kegel balls work best when you exercise with them, particularly when you’re doing exercises targeted at strengthening your pelvic floor. 

When it comes to how long you can leave in Kegel weights, it varies from person to person, but you should start off slow (5-15 min), and build up your tolerance over time. 

The same goes for how long it takes for Kegel weights for work, it depends on the person, but generally people see results after 12 weeks of regular use.
